Not too long ago I reviewed the metallic lip kits by Makeup Revolution and I wasn’t impressed. Not wanting to give up hope on affordable liquid lipstick I gave one of their matte shades a try.
In the spirit of Halloween I decided to pick up Makeup Revolutions Retro Luxe Matte Lip Kit in Vampire Night. I’ve recently died my hair a red-ish shade so I want to be head to toe red for Halloween (complete with devil horns).
I was excited to try this deep red colour even though most of my lipstick collection consists of deep reds and berries, and I am so glad I did.
I absolutely love this lipstick. The colour is fab and I love the feel of the formula on my lips. It is matte but not mega dry, which means it doesn’t last a super long time, but sometimes thats worth it.
I found that the lipstick lasted well until I ate anything, then it needed a bit of a top up. The lipstick layers well though so this wasn’t a problem. Here is a cheeky selfie of me wearing it:
Now, just because I like it doesn’t mean it was perfect. Its a £6 lip kit at the end of the day. I’m still not super convinced by the use of lipliner, I think that might be a bi-product of being a 00s teen.
I found that the liquid lipstick was too sheer for the liner. You could see a clear definition between the parts of the lip you lined and the parts you didn’t. Unless you put on a fair few layers of the lipstick I found it just clinged to the liner far too much for me.
I think I’ll be using the lipstick without the liner from now on, I’m too lazy to apply two lip products and I’m not convinced the liner adds to the look. If you are looking to over line your lips though, it is a decent lip liner, I just don’t rate the liner/lipstick combo.
Overall I absolutely loved this product, and I’m so so glad I gave the Makeup Revolution Retro Luxe range another chance. I will definitely be trying out more of their matte shades, I enjoyed the comfort of them and the way they layered and applied. I just don’t think these kits will convert me to liner any time soon.
Have you tried any of the other matte shades? What colours should I try? Let me know!
