Slimming World BBQ Sauce: Recipe Review


I rejoined Slimming World this week after 6 years of careless eating and very little exercise. Determined to make a change for my health and wellbeing I signed up, got weighed and settled on a target.

Now, halfway through my first week I’m putting slimming world food and recipes to the test. Starting with this Syn free recipe for BBQ Sauce.

In the week I will use my healthy extra a and b choices for my breakfast. Shout out to my usual 250ml Milk and 2 Weetabix! But at the weekend I want to be more adventurous with my healthy extras.

So I challenged myself to make a Syn free pizza! I used a BFree Gluten free wrap as the base (HexA) and low fat mozzarella (HexB) and SW BBQ sauce instead of the traditional tomato base. I also added some spinach, peppers and mushrooms for toppings too!


The original BBQ sauce recipe can be found on the Slimming World website.

The sauce consisted of:

  • Low calorie cooking spray
  • 1 onion, peeled and roughly chopped
  • 1 tsp mild chilli powder
  • 225g passata
  • 3 tbsp sweetener
  • 4 tbsp balsamic vinegar
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • ½ tsp mustard powder

I found the recipe really easy to follow and the sauce was dead simple to make. I will definitely be making this again. In the future I might use half a tsp of chilli powder instead because the sauce was quite spicy. Combined with all the rich flavours the spice was a tiny bit overpowering.

This Syn free sauce is definitely going to help me out in the coming weeks and I can’t wait to try and make a hunters chicken with it!
